* Injectible and oral anti-inflammatories
* Systemic opioid injections and/or constant rate infusion (through IV line)
* Cold Laser Therpay, which helps reduce inflammation and speed healing by delivering concentrated oxygen to the tissues. Two (2) treatments will be performed 24 hours apart after the surgery
I understand there is a minimum of one night of hospitalization.
* Oral anti-inflammatories
* Confinement – degree and length will depend upon surgical procedure performed
* Monitoring of surgery site for swelling, discharge, and/or disuse of limb
I understand that my compliance with all instructions and administration of all medications plays a critical role in minimizing my pet’s risk of complications.
Orthopedic Implants (Plates, Pins, Screws):
Implants are applied to bones in an attempt to stabilize them enough to heal. The implants themselves are never meant to be a means of permanent stabilization. That means that an implant must hold long enough to allow the animal’s body to heal. Implant application/selection and owner post-operative compliance greatly effect the success of an implant. However, every animal is biologically unique. Age, underlying health status, the nature of injuries, etc., all impact the rate at which an animal may heal and therefore the subsequent length of time that an implant is required for stabilization.
I understand that implant application/selection and post-operative owner compliance greatly affects the success of surgery.
* Bleeding – some is normal during 1st 24 hr after surgery
* Implant failure (see above) and either subsequent surgery and/or amputation
* Swelling and/or wounds associated with bandaging
* Implant irritation requiring removal
* Thrombosis/blood clot/stroke – possible with any surgery, but may be higher risk with orthopedic surgery
* Anesthetic complications, including death
There may be instances where we have to see your pet for a recheck exam after his or her surgery. If there is an issue with your pet’s surgical success, below is what is covered in a recheck exam at different intervals of time post-operatively.
* 0-4 weeks post operatively – Recheck exams, radiographs, splint/bandage changes and pin removals are covered 100%.
* 4-8 weeks post-operatively – Recheck exams and radiographs are covered at 100%. Procedures, or surgical revisions are covered at 50%.
* 8 weeks to 1 year post-operatively – Recheck exams and radiographs covered at 100%. Procedures, and surgical revisions will be at the owner’s expense (not covered).
* External Fixator removal – Covered 100% regardless of timing.
I understand that implant application/selection and post-operative owner compliance greatly affects the success of surgery.
I have also read and signed the Metro Paws Animal Hospital Anesthesia Consent Form (page 3) and I certify that I am aware of the risks associated with anesthesia.
