A veterinarian will determine that sedation for grooming is necessary and applicable for your pet. Often times, one of our experienced nurses can hold your pet to get groomed. However, when the safety of our groomer or staff is questioned, or the stress caused to your pet makes it more advantageous to sedate, we will do so. As much as we are able, we will attempt to do a pre-anesthetic exam prior to sedation, although often times this is not possible. We also require bloodwork on a yearly basis for sedation purposes. Senior pets may require more frequent bloodwork based on doctor discretion. At times we will run this bloodwork in house if we are able to obtain the blood prior to sedation; at other times we will send the bloodwork out to a reference lab to get a full panel. Since we like to maximize what we get done for your pet in attempt to minimize anesthetic occurrences, please consider other procedures to be done concurrently while your pet is sedated to be groomed, such as: updating vaccines, dental cleanings, growth removals, etc…
